Every creative person sooner or later faces writer’s block.
The loss of inspiration or moments of not being able to express your thoughts on the blank white sheet. No matter how intriguing things happen to him on a daily basis, there comes a time when inspiration seems to evaporate. Yes, we’re talking about the writer’s block that causes him to rewrite the first sentence several times. He writes and rubs, and all this combined with the worry that he is wasting his time and the accompanying mild panic about the inevitable deadlines. Did you recognize yourself? We also got to know each other. BUT regardless of the cause, it’s important to realize that writer’s block is NOT something irreversible or insurmountable.
Now what?
As soon as you ask yourself this question, you will be surprised to find that good ideas begin to levitate through your mind.
We share a few techniques that we use to get out when we fall into the trap of creative block and that help us without fail to get the flow of inspiration back.
The strategically-considered FIRST sentence is a magnet for the reader
If you want to grab the reader’s attention and direct them to a specific action, the strategically constructed copy is essential.
The first sentence serves as a request, it challenges the reader to continue, while the second persuades him to read the next one. This approach gives rise to exciting texts that not only attract interest but also hold it. We all strive to achieve this, right?
The insatiable thirst for knowledge and curiosity
Good copywriters not only possess a thirst for knowledge and curiosity, but also actively cultivate it.
- They don’t just write for their readers, they are on their mind wave.
- They understand what excites them and what provokes their interest.
- They are driven by a constant drive to offer content that is not only informative and engaging but equally inspiring.
Inspiration often comes from the most unexpected places. In our work, we experiment with new themes and explore different authors. This is how we expand our horizons and ensure a constant flow of fresh ideas for writing.
The best time to start is now
When we sit in front of a blank piece of paper or a blank screen, we sometimes feel lost, without direction.
“Start writing, the rest will fall into place”.
Familiar, right? Every great success is the result of small but decisive steps forward.
The idea of starting to write without chasing perfection or the perfect end result can be liberating. We just immerse ourselves in the process and jot down the ideas that jump into our mind.
Monotony in the text
The last thing you want is for your text to sound “monotonous”. Monotony in the text can make the information hard to digest and lose the reader’s attention.
How to avoid it? Just edit it. Without monotonous sentences and with variations in sentence length and style of expression.
Plan B
In case none of that works, we also have a plan B. If you’re blocked, look away from the topic of the block that’s screaming for your attention.
The Japanese have a similar philosophy that we often follow. It is called “Ma” and means a moment of empty space that is created by a pause or stop in time. This moment of emptiness is considered important because it allows people to relax, focus and feel the connection between possibilities and existing objects, giving them new meaning and harmony.
Surrounded by daily information noise and constant dynamics, the concept of “ma” offers a deep and refreshing look at things. Isn’t this where creative inspiration is born?
Seek privacy. Take a breath and reboot. Find the inspiration beyond the day-to-day activities that actually most likely led to the lack of it. During this time, write down your ideas. If you notice that inspiration often appears at the most inappropriate moment, and when you purposefully look for it, there is no mention of it – the solution is to keep a notebook and pen handy or another forgotten draft in “Notes”. Trust us, this strategy is a winner.
By accepting the blockage as part of the creative process and using the strategies mentioned to overcome it, you will find that inspiration will find itself.
We’re sure that mastering writer’s block is in our skill-set, and we’re ready to tell your story!
